Mother of All Maskandi Festival 2024: The Mother of All Maskandi Festival 2024 is a competition and event organized by D-Lokwe Investment. It aims to recognize the efforts of Maskandi musicians who have been working hard to elevate the music genre to new heights in South Africa.
This competition is the first of its kind in the Maskandi music industry. 30 renowned Zulu Blues music makers competed for the top position in the competition, which concluded on April 6th, 2024, at the Mabhida Peoples Park. Notably, King Khuzani, Igcokoma Elisha, and Inkosi Yamagcokama were not part of the competition to give others a chance to shine.
uGatsheni, who has been breaking barriers and setting boundaries since the release of his song titled “Hit after Hit,” emerged as the winner of the competition with a wide margin. He has set a record as the first winner of the inaugural competition. As the winner of the competition, uGatsheni was awarded the keys to a brand new Quantum. Prior to winning this competition, Gatsheni defeated Grammy award winner Tyla, and Lebo Malope to become the Best Newcomer in the just concluded Cultural and Creative Industry Awards 2024.
Many Maskandi artists performed at the event, and Mthandeni Sk made headlines for the wrong reasons. Igcokama Elisha was kicked off the stage by the MC of the event in the person of Zimdollar for not abiding by the time allocated to him. Zimdollar explained after the event that Mthandeni was supposed to perform by 7 pm but he arrived at the venue by 9:30 pm and immediately maneuvered his way to the stage perform.
